چکیده

The processing pipeline of a digital camera converts the RAW image acquired by the sensor to a representation of the original scene that should be as faithful as possible. There are mainly two modules responsible for the color-rendering accuracy of a digital camera: the former is the illuminant estimation and correction module, and the latter is the color matrix transformation aimed to adapt the color response of the sensor to a standard color space. These two modules together form what may be called the color correction pipeline. We design and test new color correction pipelines that exploit different illuminant estimation and correction algorithms that are tuned and automatically selected on the basis of the image content. Since the illuminant estimation is an ill-posed problem, illuminant correction is not error-free. An adaptive color matrix transformation module is optimized, taking into account the behavior of the first module in order to alleviate the amplification of color errors. The proposed pipelines are tested on a publicly available dataset of RAW images. Experimental results show that exploiting the cross-talks between the modules of the pipeline can lead to a higher color-rendition accuracy. © The Authors. A Color Balancing Algorithm for Cameras

Color constancy refers to the ability to recognize the true color of objects in a scene regardless of the illumination which is incident upon them. While the human visual system is color-constant to a large extent, digital cameras have to rely on fast color balancing algorithms, integrated into their image signal processing (ISP) pipeline, in order to estimate the illumination in a scene and co...

Demosaicking: Color Filter Array Interpolation in Single-Chip Digital Cameras

Digital cameras have become popular and many people are choosing to take their pictures with digital cameras instead of film cameras. When a digital image is recorded, the camera needs to perform a significant amount of processing to provide the user a viewable image. This processing includes white balance adjustment, gamma correction, compression and more (reference “Color Image Processing Pip...

Single-Sensor RGB and NIR Image Acquisition: Toward Optimal Performance by Taking Account of CFA Pattern, Demosaicking, and Color Correction

In recent years, many applications using a pair of RGB and near-infrared (NIR) images have been proposed in computer vision and image processing communities. Thanks to recent progress of image sensor technology, it is also becoming possible to manufacture an image sensor with a novel spectral filter array, which has RGB plus NIR pixels for one-shot acquisition of the RGB and the NIR images. In ...

An Empirical Camera Model for Internet Color Vision

Images harvested from the Web are proving to be useful for many visual tasks, including recognition, geo-location, and three-dimensional reconstruction. These images are captured under a variety of lighting conditions by consumer-level digital cameras, and these cameras have color processing pipelines that are diverse, complex, and scenedependent. As a result, the color information contained in...
